Desire and Revolt

Desire and Revolt screened at Outpost Artists Resources on December 9th as part of the Cuts and Burns screening series. Curated by Hana Schaich, featuring Janet BiggsValie Export, Shiri Faingold, Julia Fuhr MannHanna SchaichGina Burner & Lo-Fi Cherry.
The program screened at Outpost Artists Resources on December 9th of 2021, and was available to view on demand for two weeks thereafter.

“I am a queer multimedia artist from Berlin and received the amazing opportunity to curate one of the collections. This allowed me to fully focus on female artists and present a womxn-only screening. Womxn artists are still woefully underrepresented in all aspects of the artworld. The existence of a few stars, does not mean that women have achieved equality. There is a systemic, structural problem with male artists being valued over females.
“Desire and Revolt” shows different approaches on how to defend, define and deconstruct identity. All the works examine, question or criticise the relationship between gender, identity and society.
It was hard to brake down the number of the artists, so I decided to show a variety of very strong and different approaches from all over the world. It was important to me to juxtapose pieces talking about same topics in different times or contrasting tonalities.  From showing a trailer, to emphasise that art is an ongoing and future process to films dealing with the female subject of consumer capitalism, the struggle to maintain a self of sense, Queer Utopia and Queer Empowerment. It was important for me to include the piece “GAY*WATCH Berlin“ where I collaborated with Gina Burner and Lo- Fi Cherry, because I believe we should celebrate the “Otherness”. The artist fee for the piece will go to the BesD Nothilfe Fonds, an Emergency Fund for Sex Workers who are not entitled to state aid.  “Desire and Revolt” is a poetic journey of pieces that I believe will inspire you and open up your horizon.”
