insideNormanStreet

Inside Norman Street is a storytelling and dance performance/book project made possible by a grant from Queens Council on the Arts.

For the past 8 weeks, 12 residents from Norman Street in Ridgewood, Queens have participated in creative writing and storytelling workshops with Libby Mislan, performance poet and Norman Street resident. The neighbors range in age from 17 to 74 and they represent countries all over the world (Nepal, Poland, Puerto Rico, Kyrgyzstan, Jamaica), as well as folks who grew up in New York City and on Norman Street itself. These once strangers have now become friends and artistic collaborators, through sharing stories about relationships, first times, overcoming fears and obstacles, what they hold sacred, and where they find a sense of home.
